Who’s Got Your Back is #1 New York Times Bestseller

Posted on June 4th, 2009 by Keith Ferrazzi

BIG NEWS!

Who’s Got Your Back has been chosen as the New York Times #1 Bestseller!

I am so excited to receive this news. I’m so thrilled not because it’s my book that’s selling, but because people are making a choice – as individuals – to choose prosperity. We’re choosing to more forward, not backward. And it’s this positive influence that Who’s Got Your Back is having on people’s lives that warms my heart today.

So, thank you.

Thank you for choosing to have the Candor and Authenticity to create real relationships, not ones based on politics and politeness.

Thank you for choosing to hold each other accountable. We need to be there for each other. We must be there for each other to make sure we keep moving forward and not backward.

Thank you for all the little choices that you’re making that will soon turn into one big choice.

Thank you for letting down your guard and inviting people into your life. We can’t be afraid to share our dreams and claim them as our own anymore.

I leave you with a question: What is a choice you are going to make in order to be prosperous today? I suggest you choose to pick up the phone and invite an old friend to a long slow dinner. Share your dreams and aspirations. Always look forward, not backward. Reach out to one person today and make a difference in your life. And in theirs.

Who’s Got Your Back?

Thank you.

Congratulations on the Book. This is my view on the personal level of the crisis: I guess we all must do as much as possible to spread our smiles. Those of us with senses of humor must tell jokes and funny stories. The rest of us need to speak to others with kindness, gentleness, and understanding. We are all in the same boat. We do have some things we can do to help. We can WANT LESS, and teach out children to want less. We can stop buying from China and other countries in which there is no balance of trade. We can encourage American manufacturing and put Americans back to work. We can foster the American work ethic. My life work was teaching children with learning disabilities. What kind of nonsense is “no child left behind?” Not everybody can do the same level of achievement. Look at our parents’ generation. Many had an eighth grade or lower education, and made very successful lives for their families. They did not get divorced, they worked together. They had common goals, often aimed at making things better for us. They taught us to make do, reuse, recycle. No one had the amount of stuff the kids have today. We used our imagination. And we were quite happy!

Keith weaves all of the important responses that businesses need with the basic need to enhance the humanity of all who labor there.

Congrats Keith, I Love who you are. I've made 2 recent prosperity choices I'll share: 1. A new success/abundance practice. Each day I make a point of celebrating my CURRENT success and abundance. 2. I've begun the move to a Pay-it-Forward model for my relationship coaching for men. This is based on a fully prosperous and abundant mindset. The feedback has been amazing. Thanks for asking!

Great to hear Keith! Congrats - you truely deserve it! Thanks for the inspiration and allowing me to be a part of the movement. Looking forward to meeting more and more "greenlighters" and hope to see everyone on greenlightcommunity.com Kind Regards, Kent

Thanks for the jumpstart on building new relationships within my friendships. Last night I went to an Open Mike to find out whether it would be a good place for a friend's retirement party. I went early to support the restaurent by having supper, not just seeking info or to get on stage. this gave me an opportunity to express two of my friend's talents so authentically that they- while not present- have been welcomed to come back and auditon for upcoming paid events. In that very supportive, fun environment I was also welcomed to do a couple of my jazz-blues poems and got a fantastic reception. Today I am back on track working on a book that I am sure will be an artistic and financial success. Until your L..A workshop in association with UOP I was kind of dragging- feeling overwhelmed by the continual upgrades in online communication required for even on-ground classroom instructors. Today I am investing new energy in my communication with them knowing that every communication I improve contributes to my larger goal of having my poems, workshops and other products used by millions of people, globally. Thank your for taking the time to share what God has given you.

Keith, I want to thank you again for the wonderful experience in Chicago last night, where I know you touched and inspired the truly diverse audience who took time to hear you speak. I reminded you afterwards that 13 years ago when we worked together promoting a non-profit association, you cared about me enough to suggest I start my own company. I did that a month later, and it was my passion for the next 12 years. Today I am in a different place, and here again I find you inspiring me to become more than what I am today. I can only hope that by following your new method of developing vulnerability, generosity, candor and accountability in my daily life I can encourage others to make their own life changing decisions. Keith: Last night in Chicago your story about your Mom and her card group that is still going strong after 45 years really hit home about the people who are the most important in your life. In the 5th grade getting pushed down by a girl (a big one) and showing everyone your sweater from Goodwill making you want to never feel like that again and that no one was going to stop you from being successful. Coming full circle standing at the pool a week and half ago crying. I am sure out of happiness because your first book was no fluke. Neither will this one. I thank you for motivating me to keep striving to be the best I can at whatever I choose. How dare I not try to become as successful as I can. It would be an insult to myself and you. Hope to meet you some day. Rob Fitzgerald

Keith, Your presentation at the Suiss Hotel/Chicago last night was wonderful. Seeing you five years ago talk about Never Eat Alone and now Who's Got Your Back is transforming . You have evolved and let us witness your change and growth. Thank you! Molly

Keith, Comment #1 I am wondering why some are looking at your hair instead of your heart. #2 Your book potentially could help salvage some outdated networking groups who show up with hands out for the referrals and pass 3rd generated fluffs. #3 Perhaps it could help some understand that "nice" is a choice instead of a show of weakness or stupidity. #4 I agree with the common sense remark that this is some good ol' fashion common sense that you are putting in front of the masses to revive the spirit of giving and of course watching one another's backs. Hmmm... sounds like a very good plan.

"What choices are you making today to be more prosperous? What choices will you make? How will you reach out to someone to make a difference in your life – and in theirs?" As another member of The NY Greenlight Community, I would invite people to also read Keith's first book as well, "Never Eat Alone" these books work perfectly together in changing the landscape of the way we relate to each other. Whenever I meet someone now I try to learn what their passions are and if there is any way I can help them attain them. Then I go back and make careful notes immediately afterward and reconnect with them in the ways that Keith describes in "Never Eat Alone" and on one of his blog posts here. Sounds simple, but how many of us actually do it? Alex Katsanos

Keith Congratulations on driving your book to the top of the charts. I know you have put a lot of thought into the book as well as the marketing of the book. I asked Rick Frishman about 6 months ago who he felt had the best handle on marketing a book today, and he said you. Congrats again. Larry Benet

Bertrand Gervais moderator

Hi Kieth. Congrats on your success. My name is Bert, I am a member of the greenlight community and I met you event at the Hyatt Hotel in NYC. You've inspired me to be more honest in my relationships specificially with two people. 1. My older Brother 2. My cousin Fred They have been a support group for me for a long time and I have longed to deepen my relationship with them. The biggest takeaway I got from your book is that my inability to share tough truths about my feelings for them stem not from my caring about their feelings but my lack of courage to do what's right. Thanks for the inspiration. Bert Gervais. Author, Who's in your top Hive?

Leave it to my audience to be candid about my follicular challenges. (100 natural challenge, btw ). ;) Thanks for all the supportive remarks guys. And that includes the rug jokes!

Keith, I always knew you could do it! This milestone is just the beginning of your success! -Sana

Today I am engaged in 3 activities that would directly relate to the call to action Keith Ferrazzi has issued about candor and involvement: 1) I have chosen to learn about and become deeply involved in the US health reform movement and today am reminding everyone to sign-up and participate tomorrow (June 6th) in Obama's health care reform neighborhood meetings. Locations and sign-up are at http://www.facebook.com/ext/share.php?sid=114782594528&h=B7l87&u=jPfhq&ref=mf. 2) Have taken the lead in recruiting new members for an advisory board and am taking a number of ideas from Keith's book to make sure we do not degenerate into superficial business meetings. 3) Have been inspired to bring more passion into my business (www.thedetailperson.com) which has shifted my business from e-commerce toward employing internet tools and social media to bring together health communities of medical professionals, patients and insurers. I wish everyone well in finding their passions, sharing their talents and supporting one another! Pat, "The Detail Person"

Keith, I credit alot of my coming out of my shell as a geek to you. If you doubt it, ask anyone in Houston. I speak about this brand of giving first transparent real advocacy across Houston as I have applied it in a speech called Unleashing Social Networking to drive Revenue. Because of your first book Never Eat Alone, I have started the group inHouston which is free, open, giving first, and deeply caring like the dinner parties you advocated. It started in February 2008 with just 6 and open to my network offline and on LinkedIn. By February 2009 that once a month mixer grew to over 350 and last month there were over 400. (You're invited any second Wednesday of course). Through applying what I have learned in Never Eat Alone, I have generated over $15MM in new monthly revenue for our firm. Thanks for writing this follow-up book. I have found advocates who have my back and this book solidifies those relationships. I look forward to a packed house when you come to Houston. Eric Standlee

i buy this book in washington on way back to beijing few days ago. I think "who's got your backside" is good book, but in china the culture is not to mention the names of everybody you heard about. chinese people more careful about saying who they know, so i'm not sure if it works here. anyway, thanks for a good book and i try to see if it will work for me too. when will keith ferrazi visit china to tell the secrets of being success?

"We’re choosing to more forward" in your message above must read "We’re choosing to move forward." You told me that 'friends' will not hesitate to correct 'friends.' You have a great message in your theme. Good for humanity. B. S. Mani

OK, maybe it will be no.1 next week. But now can we discuss the hairstyle? Is it a rug? Is he trying to be like The Donald? is he now The Keith? What's going on up there?

Nadine Vogel moderator

Keith: A heartfelt congratulations. I can only hope my new book, DIVE IN will be as successful. Nadine

Hi Keith, I have been promoting your book to everyone because I believe in the importance and value of creating and fostering lifeline relationships. I bought your book at the NYC event and you kindly took time to speak with me and sign my copy. I subsequently won a book for providing a comment on the internet and will donate it to an online group whose members are all unemployed. Thanks for giving me this opportunity to not only be generous on behalf of FerrazziGreenlight but to also spread your message. Learning, living, and loving it. Denise

WGYB will be #1 on the NYT besteller list publishing June 14. It's already out in the industry press, just not in the paper itself yet.

Christopher Banas moderator

Keith, thank you for another great book. I enjoyed NEA and worked to apply some of the things I learned in my business life. WGYB has planted the seeds and provided the tools to help me to make a real change in my life both personally as well as professionally. I have already started by taking two old relationships with people I though I knew to a different level. I am also applying your concepts to get away from the "cardboard people" syndrome with those that I meet or interact with daily. I was wonderful hearing you speak in Orlando and seeing just how easy it is to implement a new way of thinking, talking, and listening. I had the opportunity to make real connections with people in a short period of time. I look forward to sharing my passions and skills to help others in or out of the GL community. It is great to be part of a group of so many talented and caring people like Jorge and Mayra. Thanks again for your help!

Great to reconnect with you Keith, Great job! Have you join yet in The Dallas Principles, www.TheDallasPrinciples.org. Stop by when you are in Miami. Juan

I checked the NYT list, and this book is not no.1 - in fact, it's not in the top ten of the hardback advice section. How can Keith say it's no.1? I'm a really big fan of Keith (though I'm not sure about the teenager hairstyle, I have to be honest), but I feel like he's abusing my trust in him. Was it number 1, and now it's off the list? What's going on?

Jon moderator

Why is the book not called "Who's got your back?", i.e. with a question mark. Without the ?, it seems like a statement, but it doesn't make any sense. It bothers me so much that I refuse to buy the book - if the title of the book contains an error, how good can the rest be? It's just stupid.

Sam Collins moderator

This is the best yet Keith and looking forward to seeing you in Miami.

Hi Keith, I follow you on twitter and you sent me a personal mail which I thank you for as I know your time is precious. I believe that what you say is what we used to call old common sense and old common hospitality to invite a friend around for a chat and a meal. It breaks my heart that the world has forgotten to take the time to talk to one another beyond the superficiality of how better one is than the other. The people of the world need to go back to common civility and impeccable truth and therefore we can move forward together. Anne www.twitter.com/Alphalingo

Keith Congrats! You were so inspiring at Media Bistro Circus this past week in New York. You spoke truths that resonate on so many levels. What you are talking about is something that is simple to do and so needed in our culture. Your book puts context to universal truths that I recognize I've been putting into practice without really knowing what it was I was doing! It works. It's fantastic and I will be contacting you to see how i can support this work :) One of my favorite sayings is "Be the change you wish to see in the world" by Gandhi. You are doing this. Way cool!

Srinivas Rao moderator

Congrats Keith. I can't say I'm surprised after hearing your speech in LA :).

Michael Savage moderator

Congratulations Keith! Well deserved. I have been hooked on your stuff since Mega-Book in LA with MVH. You have a real passion and great insight and I look forward to finishing up Who's got your back ASAP. Looking forward to crossing paths soon... Just not in between 2 train cars!
