Need Your Advice – Vote on My Blog Posting Schedule

Posted on November 4th, 2009 by Keith Ferrazzi

Whenever possible, I want my readers to be in charge. You speak, I’ll listen. As a smart man recently said to me, “You want a marketing genius? Ask the market!”

Here’s the question: Should I shift from three to two posts per week?

Cast your vote! I'll announce the verdict next Thursday. If 2x receives a two-thirds majority, then every Tuesday and Thursday at 6:30 a.m. Eastern, you’ll see a new blog post. Otherwise, I’ll stick with three.

Make your YES/NO vote in the “Comments” – and tell me why.

  1. No. I look forward to the posts. I would prefer you increase the number of posts per week.

  2. Me too. Really look forward to them. If possible please increase the number of posts to 5 .

  3. No.

If it's a strain to do for you, I'd cut back. If it's neutral, keep them coming. Worst case, if I can't read the third in a week, I'll simply not read it and either catch up another time, or just miss a blog post. If you didn't write it, I would have missed it anyway.

  4. I'd say two a week Kieth.

  5. Keith, I vote that when you have killer content, post away.

If that means one amazing post per week, then one is what I want.

If you have one each day, then I want one every day.

I'm far less interested in a consistent schedule - I'm interested in great content that I take notes from and pass around. Any blog that does not deliver content I love on a regular basis I drop, and this blog has been helpful for me so far (as is "Never Eat Alone").

Focus on the great content over a posting schedule.

  6. Couldn't agree with the other Jonathan more...

The biggest value-add lies in quality, no quantity. My guess, however, is that you have a bevy of good posts waiting in the cue. In this case, 2x per week is preferable to 1x per week.

    P.S. I wrote a post about you...any interest? http://blog.theascendancegroup.org/post/can-someone-please-send-this-to-keith-ferrazzi/

  7. I would say two per week, unless you have great content that cannot wait until the next week. So, I agree with Jonathan. As long as you have great content, consistency does not matter.

Either way, I always find time to stop by and read.

  8. Two:
Fewer high value posts is better than more lower value posts.

  9. Yes.
I'd go for 2 per week Keith. It will probably end-up in an even better content of the posts and additionally will give YOU extra time to enrich the content of the posts or, who knows, maybe start writing another great book!
    Best wishes,

    Pablo.

  10. I agree with the others who say "post when appropriate," without feeling the need to post "something." I'd rather see something meaningful, whether that's once a week or 5x a week. Let the quality of the content determine the schedule.

  11. The question that I have for you, Keith, is ... what do you want to do? What makes sense for you based on everything else you have going on? Your passion to help others grow and develop is obvious and ALWAYS comes across in your posts.

Not to sound "earthy" but what does your heart tell you to do? Because I don't hear from the people I care about multiple times during the week does not mean that our relationship grows cold ... it makes me value the moments that I hear from them. Post when you feel led.

Thanks for being open and vulnerable enough to ask your fans. And by the way, GREAT Halloween costume ... I am now going back to the gym!

  12. Hi Keith,

I don't mind either, or. In terms of content the more the merrier, however it also depends on how much time you can devote to it.

I believe that most of us readers of your blog , wouldn't mind 4 times a week (or 5) but as long as you don't leave us without your insight for more than a few days we won't complain (at least I won't), as I do understand it is not your only commitment.

By the way, congrats on the blog and the books, i'm reading "Never eat alone" and find it most inspiring

    Best

  13. I so look forward to reading your posts, that I would like to see three or more a week.

But, I can't argue with the logic of the above comments, either; only post when you have something good to post about.

Either way, I can't wait for the next post!

  14. I loved the book and support materials. Love the posts. How ever many you can do is fine.
Since discovering you a couple of weeks ago, it's been great fun sharing your work and encouraging folks to engage themselves with it.

  15. michael cruz says:

2 would be a great idea. Sometimes people have information overload. Too many emails might not be a good idea.

  16. I would vote for 2 and keep them concise and useful as you do now. There won't be enough time to implement 2 a week.

  17. Fewer high quality post would be better. It's not quantity that counts but quality.

  18. I say 2, and its not b/c your posts aren't worth it; they are! I say two only b/c I'm already on info overload, so I'd rather get two quality and actionable ideas and focus on implementing into my own context, rather than have more.

If you have a writing streak, I say save them for next week and build up so you can take an extended vacation!

  19. I vote 2 unless there is some very special content or reason for an occasional 3rd. Sometimes the message traffic can appear overwhelming the simple fix is to delte or spreed read too fast. You want to keep the blogs from becoming 'clutter'

  20. Dale Wetmore says:

No. 3 posts per week is good, as long as the quality of the posts continues to be high.

  21. Hi Keith - I get a lot of value out of reading your posts but rather than try to fill a quota, I'd prefer for you to post when you have something to say or something to share. In other words, I'd rather read one post a week if that's all you have or 8 posts a week if you've had a deluge of really interesting, cool thoughts/ideas. For me, it's about the quality of the posts, not the number.

  22. Sam B. Bruce, PMP says:

    Kieth,

I agree with the two per week as the standard.
It provides you time to get out what you think is important.

Further, if you have a "speical guest" with a giant message that needs to get out quickly-that can be the exception.

It also gives us the time they are coming so we can look forward to seeing them arrive. Thus, we can prepare to use them better for our team.

    Sam

  23. I find that I blog better when I don't worry about the numbers. I agree with others that if you have something that cannot wait, post as much as you would like! However, if one great post is what works for you on a given week, that is what we should get.

No one will leave you over quantity issues, because the quality is unmatched. :-)

  24. Thanks for all the votes so far. It's great how so many of you turn the question back to ask what's best for ME, Keith? It's a war of generosity, only possible among my readers, right? :-) Interested to see how the votes tally - won't know until next week, and i'll be making an announcement. it's anyone's race... so keep voting people!

  25. Keith- Yours is one of several blogs that I follow. I eagerly look forward to your posts. So I say the more the better. Ultimately, like all of the above comments, its really whatever you feel.
I don't agree with the "information overload" that was mentioned somewhere above. No such thing. If you want it, it's there. If you don't then don't find it. There is nobody shoving info down our throats, your followers will absorb at their own pace. So, that said, if you were in the mood to post 5 times a week, I would love it!

  26. Keith,

First want to say thank you for all that you share! I have a tremendous story to share with you at some point about what your book has done to change my life, my business and my overall attitude as a serial entrepreneur (I own 5 busineses currently with ZERO networking:)

Post when its right for you, post when you can deliver value, post when your most passionate about what you do! That's when we will be able to get the most impact! Thank you for all you do!

  27. 3x a Week. This is assuming as others have alluded to that you have plenty of content in the cue that you feel is high value add.

If you ever feel that is the concern, cutting back to 2x a week with an occasional bonus on those special occasions when you just have to get something out there and can't wait!

I already scan to see what posts are most relevant/interesting to me so you don't have to cut back on my account. I'd have to filter anyway!

  28. Yes. 2 better posts > 3 posts.

  29. Hi Keith - post to your blog as often as you like. Using feed readers we can check and read new articles at the frequency that suits us. That's what I love about this technology.

If you choose really frequent posting you can even use categories and/or tags so that less frequent readers can easily target their urgent information need.

I also echo above comments. Content is king - great content is more important than a rigid schedule.

  30. Susanne Rupprecht says:

Thank you for all the knowledge!

I can see quickly whether a post is relevant to me or not. The latter, I just click away fast.

Therefore I propose: 3 posts a week, then there are more choices.

  31. 3!!!!

Bceause I always look forward to your posts!

  32. Keith,

I have to agree with some others that have posted; as long as the content is great post away and don't worry about keeping to a schedule.

P.S. I recommend your book "Never Eat Alone" to all those I encounter as it's absolutely one of the greatest books I have read. I hope one day meet you, and see you speak in person.

  33. I catch up with your blog twice a week, Keith. I have a great free Firefox add-on, Morning Coffee, that lets me "load" each weekday with every URL I want to get started with that morning. I find this is a great way to keep up with sites and blogs I value.
I agree to follow your heart. But I have also written for years, and I have to say that you value most what you do repetitively. If a third post is getting in the way of something really valuable, then go for it. But also remember that part of the value of all your posts is that you push yourself to produce them three times a week. An athlete steps up to the free-throw line and delivers quickly...because he makes it a central part of his routine during the week. Writing is like that, except more so :)
I like your posts a lot. I don't face "information overload" because I think about ways to control and organize the flow of information, like you do with your contacts. I'd much rather you kept hitting such consistent high notes with your blog, and for that reason I'll vote for three times a week. Don't worry...your fans can keep up :)

  34. I think you blog as much as you want especially if there is intrinsic value for yourself in the blog. I would probably read once a week, perhaps twice a week. If you think you're blogging too much, you can always blog everything privately (like a journal) and then choose the ones you want to put out publicly.

  35. That is a double ended question. If you want traffic to your blog, post as much to keep your audience entertained and coming back for more. However, if your schedule only allows for you to blog a few posts a week, do it. You have to do what works for you and your audience will know your posting schedule if they are subscribed readers. Do what works for you ultimately.

  36. I say you post when the content hits you. That can be once a week, 3 times, 7 times...

  37. You can be more efficient with a poll defined in google docs http://docs.google.com/ instead of counting comments.

For me is not important how often you write, it's important what you write.

Pls accept my greetings for knowledge received until now.

    Cheers,

  38. I want quality over quantity any day. Too often I find bloggers just blog for the sake of hearing themselves talk. That is the day they've jumped the shark and I stop reading. A very fine line between staying in contact and over-contacting. I like it as it is now.

  39. I think 2-3 times a week is plenty.

  40. Keith,
Your blogs are very informative and straight from the heart. I would say two a week. Now if there is something pressing that you want to share with us that you feel is we can benefit from pass the previous blogs entries of the week I am open to it. Blogging requires your precious time and I am sure those who follow you want to respect you valuable time.

  41. Keith,

Posting two blogs a week seems pretty reasonable. Our team just had the same conversation about the consistency of our Phired Up blog a few weeks back. If you still have the desire to write more than two a week then perhaps file them away for a later posting. Also you could ask followers of your blog to submit their own work and perhaps choose a couple guest post's each month. Make it consistently timed and people would get excited to see what inspiration has come from reading your books and practicing being socially excellent in life.

Love reading your stuff and thanks for being you!

    Warmest Regards,

    Woody

  42. My vote is for 2X per week, Keith.

Easier to keep up with you, although I'll read any content you put out. Thanks for the opportunity to vote.

    ~ Alex

  43. Go for two. Even one is an option. It's the quality that counts. Not the quantity.
We are receiving already to much mail. Be sure that the ones you send stand out in the crowd.
Hope this wil help. Best wishes. Koos Overbeeke form Holland.

  44. I think it really comes down to you. I personally do not have the time to read everything you write, but when I see something that pops for me, I make the time to read it. Two would be good, three would be good, one would be good. There is, of course, too much of a good thing. If I started getting one a day that might make me look less often at what you had to say and would get filed in the Keith folder unread. Time, both yours and mine.

  45. 2 is good. I vote for quality first, quantity second. Note: I secretly wish everyone posted 2-3 times per week instead of seven.

  46. Good morning Keith,

The old adage "less is more" applies. I would go with two.

  47. Keith,

I agree with the Jonathan's. Post as often as you can but only when you have excellent content about which to post. I know most of your thoughts and ideas equate to good content but you know when you've got really great content and that's he stuff you should be posting and we should be discussing.

    Thanks,

    Tom

  48. Quality over Quantity.

I believe you have outstanding content Keith, that could probably be posted 7 days a week. That being said, use your discretion and post whenever the content is most valuable.

  49. Enjoy and look forward to reading every blog you write no matter the quanity. How about 3 some weeks and 2 others?

  50. Please post when inspired hits, not when the clock ticks.
