Hey everyone - this is a short clip of Keith sharing his thoughts just a few moments ago before he makes his appearance on ABC's Good Morning America this morning at 8:30AM. Tune in and watch Keith discuss his new book, Who's Got Your Back, and the success of the Lifeline Group Good Morning America recently setup in NYC for this morning's special!
The book launch party last Monday evening at Arianna Huffington's house in LA was a truly special experience. Keith has dubbed it as one of the greatest nights of his life.
Sara has already blogged about the event in detail, so I will just post the video of Keith's speech here. I've left out the "Gong" ringing ceremony because it doesn't translate well on film, but WOW was it awesome to hear Guru Singh play that gong. Truly hypnotic.
Oh, make sure to post comments about the video below! We'd all love to hear your thoughts.
In Never Eat Alone, I wrote about how I had created a broad network of friends and allies that supercharged my career, making me one of the youngest successful CMOs out there. But back then, the fact was that while I had more connections than just about anyone I knew, I had few close, intimate relationships with people I could really open up to, share my fears and failures with, and ask for help. And the really powerful relationships I did have – my family, some intimate friends I’d had for years – weren’t ones who could really deliver the kind of insight and feedback on my career and life that I needed to hear then.
I needed a few key people who had my back, who I could talk to about anything and who would encourage and support me, tell me the truth even when it was a truth I might not want to hear, and who would hold me accountable every step of the way. I needed what I today call “lifeline relationships.”
Those who have lifeline relationships are able to get the feedback, perspective, and input that are the lifeblood of effective decision makers. The better you become at building such relationships, particularly in your professional life, the better you’ll be at what you do, and the more value you’ll bring to the table, whether you work inside or outside an organizations.
In Who’s Got Your Back, I lay out the strategy to build those relationships in your life, both within your current circles and beyond. You’ll find they have a disproportionate effect, and an incredibly positive one, on who you are, who you become, and what kind of life and success you create for yourself and your community.
Arianna Introduces Keith, with Agapi. Thanks to Shannon Stewart for the photos.
From Arianna's introduction, May 18, 2009:
"Keith Ferrazzi is a dear, dear friend. [My sister] Agapi and I consider him a real brother, the brother we didn’t have. Everything he talks about is about, in a way, moving from struggle to grace, and making our lives not just about achievement, but about giving it back, about relationships – including what you call lifeline relationships. I call it building our own tribe, of people who are always there, in hard times and good times. Keith is like that for many people around this pool today. So I just want to say, not only is he a leader and big thinker, but also he has an enormous heart and he shares it with all the people in his life. I’m thrilled to welcome you all to celebrate Keith, and send him off on his amazing 18-city book tour that starts this week, and to thank Keith for sharing his system with millions of people around the world.”
If you were at Arianna's please tell us about your experience of the evening!
Tonight at Arianna Huffington's - gracious host of the launch of the nationwide Who's Got Your Back Road Show!! - I stood at the edge of the pool and looked out at all those people. It was different than ever before for some reason. It felt right. Not deserved, just right. I know we are all about to make a difference. Thanks to all who attended!
More on the event soon, from me and other FGers. In the meantime, check out my tweets.
